(1926-) Actress, broadcaster, director, teacher and academic. Born the daughtger of Boolasingh, Mayville Durban, went to school at St Aidan's Girls' School and Durban Girls' High School. Trained ort Hare College, completing a BA degree with a distinction in English at 18 years of age, then Dartnell Crescent School as teacher. Married the photographer Dennis Bughwan in 1949, and the couple later had 3 children. In the same year she obtained an MA degree in English from the University of natal - at the time the first Indian woman in the country to obtain such a degree. She lectured in English at the Univeristy of Natal in 1951, then became a lecturer at Clairwood Indian High School, a broadcaster for the SABC and also helped her husband in his photographic studio. Her theatre career began as an active amateur actress, appearing in many prominent productions. Also at one time the secretary of the Film Society of the Durban International Club. When the University of Durbnan Westville opened its Drama Department, she became the first head and later first Professor of Drama. She retired from this position in 19**. ***
