Der Fähndrich, oder Der Falsche Verdacht is a comedy in three acts by Friedrich Ludwig Schröder (1744-1816)[1]

Published in Hamburg by Matthiessen in 1786

Translations and adaptations

Translated into English as The Ensign, by Benjamin Thompson . Published in London by J. Cundee, for Vernor and Hood in 1800 and again in a collection of Thompson's translations by Longman et al in 1801, 1811.

Translated into Dutch as De Vaandrig ("the ensign") by an anonymous author and published in 1788, reprinted in 1795.


Performance history in South Africa

1834: Performed in Dutch as De Vaandrig by Vlyt en Kunst on 19 July, with Clasius, of Het Proces om een Komedielootjie (C.E. Boniface).
