He studied at the University of Stellenbosch Drama Department in the 1970s.

As a student he appeared in Die Kaukasiese Krytsirkel, The Fall and Redemption of Man, Miss Los Istrata.
He also had roles in Workplay and Skyvers/Jollers at The Space in 1972.
