APA was an organisation established on 8 March 1987 to serve as a national platform for the amateur performing arts. Amateur dramatic societies were invited to affiliate themselves to APA, and it was hoped to organise a national one-act play festival along similar lines to that of the then already long-defunct one run by APA's predecessor, FATSSA.
