(1947-) Durban born and -based film producer with an international reputation. While an electrical engineering student at the University of Durban-Westville he began as an amateur film-maker and worker in a movie rental store, which he then bought. He then moved into film distribution and then film production. Among his notable films are Alan Paton’s Cry the Beloved Country (19**), Place of Weeping (19**), The Stick, Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom and Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina (199*). In 2006 he co-produced the stage play Bombay Crush with Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom. In 2000 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Durban-Westville.***
