Altus Theart (1980-). Actor, singer, director and compére.

Training

Studied Drama at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) (2004-2006), where he specialized in theatre, singing and directing.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Started as performer at school, cast in Koekeloer (Logan Arts Festival) and Who killed Jimmy Valentine? (1998). During his studies he starred in numerous stage productions which included A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck), The Crucible (Rev. John Hale) and the Department’s KKNK production of Skimmespel, as well as the MNet Edit short films Bloedrooi and Spaarwiel.

Since 2007 his stage credits include Grease (Barnyard Theatre. 2007), Dis Hoe Dit Was…Die Steve Hofmeyr Storie (directed by Deon Opperman, State Theatre, 2007), Schalk Schoombie's Samoerai (Aardklop, 2008), 36 performances of an Industrial Theatre production in Ghana directed by Ilse van Hemert, Deon Opperman's Tree Aan! (State Theatre 2011 )and Musiek in my Hart (2012) (State Theatre, 2012*).

In addition he tours with his one-man show “Hoe 'n man se kop werk”, (translated and directed by Elzette Maarschalk), across the country.

Besides the stage musicals mentioned, his musical work includes a couple of music videos showing on MK89 and an album entitled Altus Theart (2012). Film and TV work includes Bakgat! and Bakgat 2, Getroud Met Rugby (TV and film), Superhelde, Roepman, and Kruispad.
