François Bloemhof (1962-) is an author, playwright, composer, copywriter and film reviewer.

Biography

Born in the town of Paarl in the Cape Province, South Africa on 15 September, 1962, .

In Grade 9 his English teacher awarded him 97% for a short story, “Murder by the Number”, which he considers the start of his writing career.

Since then he has written extensively for the adult, teenage and youth markets, producing well over a 100 published works in various genres.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

While in Grade 11 at High School he won a playwriting award with A Social Gathering and his play Die Hand uit Gister was shortlisted for the Amstel Playwright of the Year Award in 1983.

In the 1990s he provided music and lyrics for Danie Botha's modernization and production of Die Spook van Verlatenfontein (Boonzaier).
