The New Brighton Arts Association was an organisation which existed in the 1960s in Port Elizabeth's New Brighton suburb. Amongst other activities, it provided music, ballroom dancing, indoor games and talent competitions, amongst other things, to get youngsters of the day off the streets. Welcome Duru, Norman Ntshinga, Fats Bokhilane, Mike Ngxcolo and Mabel Magada approached Athol Fugard and asked him to help them set up a drama group, later known as the Serpent Players.
