Jan Scholtz (1938-). Multiple award-winning scriptwriter for stage, radio, TV and film, film and TV director and producer.

Career

He started in 1965 as a novelist and writer of stories for the youth, then in 1969 began writing scripts for the radio, many of his stories becoming popular films (e.g Snip en Rissiepit, Kwikstertjie, etc.).

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He wrote and directed the first Afrikaans TV series (Keertyd, 1975). Wrote and/or directed 21 full-length films, 5 single dramas and more than 20 TV series - including Binnekring (I & II, 1989 & 1992), Sonkring (I & II, 1990 & 1993), Song vir Katryn (2003).

As playwright Jan wrote Jopie Fourie (published 1982, filmed for TV in 1979), Die Vrede van Vereeniging (published 1982, filmed for TV in 1981), Afspraak (performed at KKNK by Paul Eilers, 2007?*) **.
