(1805-1870) ("For the Use of Everyone") : An Arts and Sciences Society first founded in Holland in 1784, and introduced to the Cape by De Mist and Janssens during the Batavian period (March 1802 and January 1806) under Dutch rule, claiming the it was "the first proof shown to afford life and growth to the arts and sciences in the country". Became the Dutch school with the best reputation for preparatory education in the Cape for most of the century.
