Dambisa Kente (1958- 2002). Actress.

Biography

She was a niece of Gibson Kente. Dambisa fell ill during the production of Nothing but the Truth in 2002 and died two weeks later in Johannesburg at the age of 44, survived by her husband Vuli Mbotoli and three sons.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Played the lead in Fugard’s Nongogo (Dir. Jerry MofokengJohannesburg Civic, 1994) *

The Dhlomo Theatre opened 21 March 1983 with Night of the Long Wake by Dukuza Ka Macu. Benjy Francis (dir). Takes place 16 June, 1976 but is about the actions & reactions of a group of people. Owen Sejake, Mavuso Tshabalala, Nandi Nyembe, Fats Bookholane, Aubrey Sekese. How Long? Actress, singer & comediant. (Uncle Gibson Kente). Also in Cry, The Beloved Country, Nongogo, Athol Fugard & Nothing But The Truth.
