The '''Knysna Playhouse''' was a small theatre started in 2006 by [[Terrence Shank]] in an old movie house with a seating capacity of 200. There he staged ''[[Proof]]'' with [[Marius Weyers]] and American actress [[Liz Curtis]]. He brought American actors Leslie and Pete Penuel to star in [[Dinner With Friends]] and he staged a one-man show with his American protégé, Joel Warren. But Knysna did not have enough theatre-goers to cover the overheads and the venture was not viable, so the Knysna Playhouse was forced to close.
 
 
 
 
 
 
I found partners, took a lease on an old movie house with a seating capacity of 200 and created the Knysna Playhouse. I flew several actors (Liz Curtis, for example) from the original IceHouse cast of Proof here to open along with one of South Africa’s leading actors, Marius Weyer. Later I invited Leslie and Pete Penuel (Streetcar..;Art) from Orlando to star in Dinner With Friends. Finally, my protégé, Joel Warren, came to appear in a one-man tour de force that I selected for him.
 
 
 
Unfortunately, as with many small town theatres, there were just not enough patrons to cover the overhead, and the Playhouse was forced to close.
