The Durban Theatre Awards are a set of annual theatre awards created at the start of the new millenium.

Also found as the The Mercury Durban Theatre Awards, Mercury Durban Theatre Awards, The Durban Mercury Theatre Awards or Durban Mercury Theatre Awards in some sources.

The awards

Originally known simply as the Durban Theatre Awards, they were established circa 2003 to recognise and reward theatre work in the city of Durban. When the local newspaper, The Mercury, became its media sponsor, the name was changed to The Mercury Durban Theatre Awards

The awards were scrapped in 2018[1], apparently because productions had become few and far between, a situation probably worsened by the Covid epidemic.
