The film

Based on the eponymous novel, Die hele dorp weet by Santie Grosskopf (Nasionale Boekhandel, 1958), the film explores the devastating effects of a divorce on a family through the story of a girl who goes in search of her father after the parents decide to divorce.

The film was produced, directed and edited by Kappie Botha, with a screenplay by Santie Grosskopf and distributed by Carfo films. The cast consisted of Annemarie Botha, Mathilde Hanekom, Joubero Malherbe, Danie van der Merwe, Denise West, Dirkie Haupt, Francois le Roux, Barbara Dreyer, Japie van Niekerk, Brenda van Loggerenberg and Nic Dreyer.

Translations, adaptations, sequels, etc

In 1975 by Constantia Films made a second version of the same story, now called Soekie. (See the entry on Soekie for details of the 1975 film.)
