De Assurantie appears to have been a ad hoc satirical piece, written and read by the author for a special occasion.

Performance history in South Africa
1910: Performed (read) by the author on 8 November in the A.N.V. Saal, Cape Town (the hall of the Het Algemeen Nederlands Verbond hall) under the auspices of Aurora III, as afterpiece to the one act plays Bekroond (Bosch) and Een Gevaarlijke Sujet (Franzen). The Prime minister Gen. Louis Botha and the Minister of Education, F.S. Malan were the patrons for the evening.
