Die Deutsche Hausfrau ("The German housewife") is a German play in three acts by August Friedrich Ferdinand von Kotzebue (1761-1819)[1].

First published in Leipzig, 1813.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Moeder des Huisgezins, of Is er Geen Orde voor Edele Huisvrouwen? ("The mother of the family, or is there no honourable class for noble housewives?") by Jan Steven van Esveldt Holtrop and published in 1814 and 1826.

Performance history in South Africa

1827: Performed in Dutch as De Moeder des Huisgezins, of Is er Geen Orde voor Edele Huisvrouwen? by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 21 April in the African Theatre, as afterpiece to De Verwarring (Von Kotzebue).
