There have been two plays by this name in South Africa.

(2) Zombie by Brett Bailey and 15 performers from the Kokstad/Bhongweni community of the Eastern Cape. (1996)


Zombie by Geraldine Aron and Brian Astbury (1977)

A play by Geraldine Aron, based on a story line by Brian Astbury, with music by Alan Hayman.

A musical about a rock star who committed suicide on stage to satisfy his fans.

Staged at The Space (Cape Town) in 1977, directed by Brian Astbury with Allen Ambor, Charles Comyn, Pippa Duffy, Phyllis Early, Andrea Fine, Guillaume and Maria Schoeman. Design by Marge Watson, graphics by Debbie May, sound by Graham Muir and stage management by Arthur Benjamin.

Zombie by Brett Bailey and the Kokstad/Bhongweni community of the Eastern Cape. (1996)

Originating as an interactive physical theatre work, to help the commuity come to terms with the accidental death of twelve schoolboys and the accusations of witchcraft that erupted in the community.

First performed formally as a play with this title at the Grahamstown Festival in 1996. (In 1998 it was revised and renamed Ipi Zombi?, the name under which it has been published.)
