Biography
She was married to John Wright for a while, and directed some of his puppet productions.
Training
In England she took ballet lessons with Miriam Kirsch. She and Lionel Bowman formed a partnership and danced trios with Patricia Hussey, winning first prize at many Eisteddfods.
She also worked as stage manager, i.a. on 'Moonlight Flitting (at the Whitehall Theatre, 1938),
Career
She performed for the Gwen ffrangçon-Davies / Marda Vanne Company which presented seasons of plays during the war years (between 1941 and 1946) at The Standard Theatre. Later she worked for Pieter Toerien, CAPAB and other companies in Cape Town.
During the 1960s she worked in Britain at various theatres.She has made many television appearances in the UK.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Played the role of the Daughter in Rollo Gamble’s production of Six Characters in Search of an Author, 1938. Performed for the Gwen ffrangçon-Davies / Marda Vanne Company between 1941 and 1946, ***. Then worked for Pieter Toerien, CAPAB and other companies in Cape Town. Plays include A Delicate Balance (1978), Tartuffe (1978), ** (19**) at the Baxter Theatre. RANDALL, Zoe. Actor who performed for the Gwen ffrangçon-Davies / Marda Vanne Company which presented seasons of plays during the war years at The Standard Theatre. Starred in Emlyn Williams's The Wind of Heaven in 1946, together with Gwen ffrangçon-Davies, Marda Vanne, Wensley Pithey and Sidney James. She starred in Leonard Schach’s Cockpit Players production of Basil Warner’s Try for White, which opened at the Pretoria Opera House before moving to the Intimate Theatre for the remainder of their highly successful run. It also starred Nigel Hawthorne, Marjorie Gordon, Michael Turner. Joyce Grant and Fiona Fraser replaced Minna Millsten and Heather Lloyd-Jones respectively, from the Cape Town cast. She starred in the Langford-Inglis Company and Hymie Udwin production of Old Ladies together with Margaret Inglis and Bess Finney at the Alexander Theatre in 1971. She starred in the Baxter Theatre production of Aleksei Arbuzov’s Old-World together with John Carson and directed by Rosalie van der Gucht at the Leonard Rayne Theatre in 1984. Miss Weatherbury in Fiela se Kind, CAPAB, 1986.
Awards, etc
In 2002 received a Fleur du Cap Theatre Award, Best Supporting Actress in 1978, and a Fleur du Cap Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to South African theatre in 2001.
