Zimkitha Kumbaca

Zimkitha Kumbaca (1988-) is an actress, singer, composer and scriptwriter.

Biography

Born Zamandlovu Zimkitha Kumbaca on 9 January, 1988, in King Williams Town, she studied Drama and Film, majoring in Acting Techniques, at Tshwane University of Technology.

Contribution to South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance

Theatre

Her theatre career has included roles in Rhetorical and Relativity, a piece that had a successful tour in France; So What's New? (which earned Zimkitha a Naledi nomination for Best Performance by a Newcomer in 2012); Trapped (which she co-wrote with Princess Mhlongo and starred in. The piece went on to have an acclaimed tour of Austria)

In November 2019 she was appointed Resident Festival Director appointed for the 27th Zwakala Festival in 2020.

Television

She started her career with a a supporting role in the short film called Lotus and a brief cameo on the SABC3 soap opera Isidingo, before heading to theatre for a while. In 2012, she was the music composer for the SABC1 reality competition series Life's a Stage.

In 2015 she was given her first starring role as "Nontle Sanqu", a Xhosa girl who falls in love with a Sotho boy, in the E.TV drama series Matatiele. Other roles followed, including on the E.TV drama series Harvest, (Season 1, Episode 17, playing a younger version of Vatiswa Ndara's character "Clementine"), Generations: The Legacy (SABC1, a guest starring role), The Bantu Hour (a cast member in Episode 7 of Season 2, SABC2, 2017), Hope (as "Joyce Masondo", 2018), Judge Thenjiwe Khambule (2018) and Emjindini (as "Thembelihle" - SABC1, 16 September, 2018).
