Zack du Plessis (1950-2011) [1] [2] was a South African actor and comedian for stage and television.

Biography

He trained at the University of Pretoria Drama Department. He was married to Magda van Biljon, actress, television presenter and script writer.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Zack began his stage career with PACT in 1973 and roles included a cameo in Kanna, hy kô Hystoe (1974). He also appeared in productions of Plaston: DNS-Kind (1974), Die Rebellie van Lafras Verwey (1975), Die Verhoor (1973), Dubbelspel met die Dood (1974), Die Weerstaanbare Opkoms van Arturo Ui (1973), Theodora (1974).

He was in the cast of the SABC television series Willem.

He became a national public figure with his appearance in the wildly popular TV sitcoms Orkney Snork Nie (“Orkney does not snore”) and Vetkoekpaleis (“Doughnut Palace”) in the 1980s.

In 2001 he took over as one of the compéres for the equally popular Afrikaans comedy show Maak ‘n Las (“make a link”).
