Willemien

Willemien is an Afrikaans operetta by Bosman de Kock and Con Lamprecht.

The original text

Set in 1781, when a French fleet was stationed in the Cape of Good Hope, in an effort to prevent the English fromn annexing the Durch colony. The piece deals with the adventures of a young Dutch girl.

Described as "'n Volksoperette" ("a folk operetta") in the text.

The libretto and music written by Bosman de Kock, with orchestration by Con Lamprecht

The libretto and music published separately by DALRO in 1969 and again in 1974.

Performance history in South Africa

1993: Performed at the ATKV Kampustoneel festival by students of the School of Drama at the University of the Witwatersrand.
