A locally written Dutch play, it was performed in July 1868 in Cape Town by [[Aurora]], with Teengs's local Dutch afterpiece ''[[Opstand 1815]]'' ("Rebellion 1815"). This was followed by a second performance later the same month in Paarl, with the farce ''[[Niet of Graag]]'' as afterpiece. They also did it in Wynberg (August 1869, afterpiece ''[[Tante Trui]]’’ - i.e. "Aunt Pullover") and Bloemfontein under the auspices of President [[J.H. Brand]] in 8 July 1869.

Willem Nel is a locally written 4-act Dutch tragedy by H.W. Teengs (fl 1860-1890).

The play deals with an episode out of the history of the Border farmers (1815-1835).

Performance history in South Africa

1868: First performed in July in Cape Town by Aurora, with Teengs's local Dutch afterpiece Opstand 1815 ("Rebellion 1815").

1868: Performed in in Paarl later in July , with the farce Niet of Graag as afterpiece.

1869: Performed in Bloemfontein under the auspices of President J.H. Brand on 8 July.

1869: Performed in Wynberg in August , with Tante Trui’’ - i.e. "Aunt Pullover") as afterpiece.
