Willem Nel is a locally written 4-act Dutch tragedy by H.W. Teengs (fl 1860-1890).


The original text

The play deals with an episode out of the history of the Border farmers (1815-1835).

1868: First performed in Cape Town by Aurora II on 2 July, with Teengs's own afterpiece Opstand 1815 ("Rebellion 1815").

1868: Performed by Aurora II in Paarl some time later in July , with the farce Niet of Graag (Andersen) as afterpiece.
