What Was, Was! is a revue devised by Gertie Awerbuch, Morris Awerbuch and Miriam Lopert. A pot-pourri of songs and sketches, it poked affectionate fun at the ways of the Jewish community.

Performance history in South Africa

1965: Presented by Trio Productions at the Jewish Guild Theatre, Johannesburg, in 1965 with a cast of professionals including Charles Stodel, June Hern and Michael Fisher. So popular was Gertie's revue that she did another season at the Guild, and still another at the Alexander Theatre that same year.

1966: Theatre International production directed by Jack Kruger, choreographed by Gordon Wales, seen by Maurice Kort on 19 January 1966.

Adaptations

A 75rpm recording of the show exists, crediting the composers, and featuring June Hern and Charles Stodel as singers.
