Warrick Grier (19**-). Actor and director.

Biography

He graduated from the University of Cape Town in the late 1990s.

He worked in Johannesburg for several years, then studied further under Jacques Lecoq, completing his Diploma at the Lecoq school in Paris. Based in Barcelona as Artistic Director of Bantam Theatre for a time, before he returned to South Africa, specifically Cape Town, to finally settle down.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He has acted in, directed and written many plays and films.

He has appeared on stage in productions of Groundswell, Die Papegaaivrou, Richard III, Three Sisters, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Caucasian Chalk Circle (1986 and 1991), Shakespeare's Macbeth (1989), The Heidi Chronicles, The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, Night Sky, Closer.

He directed Fall i catch you (1997), Naai (1998), wrote and starred in Dinner at the Monkey House and co-wrote 'n Skewe Sirkel

Film and TV work has included roles in Dredd ("Caleb", 2012), Cape Town (2015) and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013).

Awards, etc

Warrick has garnered numerous national and international awards for his work, e.g. (Fleur du Cap Theatre Award, Best Actor 2000) for his role as "Barry" in The Open Couple.

In 2011 he was nominated in the best actor category for his role in Blackbird.
