The centenary celebrations of the Great Trek (Groot Trek) or Voortrekkkers ("pioneers") took place across South Africa, and took the form of a symbolic re-enactemnet of the trek north as well as events staged in various cities and towns across the country.
Voortrekkereeufees 1938 Pretoria
A production was staged , produced by Myles Bourke. A record of two episodes from this theatrical performance staged during the Voortrekker Centenary celebrations exists.
Twee Episodes. Voortrekkereeufees 1938 by Bourke, Myles is a bound volume in blue cloth with gilt title, containing a frontispiece portrait and black-and-white photographs, plyus an inscription on frontispiece which reads: "With best wishes and many thanks from Myles Bourke, 1939". It contains an Afrikaans text of Episode 1 ("Uys ontvang 'n Bybel van die Engelse Koloniste in Grahamstad") and Episode 2 ("Piet Retief word Gekies tot Goewerneur op Winberg"). Also included is the song "Afscheid van de Voortrekkers" by Henri ten Brink.
