Volsan, ou Le Misanthrope Par Infortune is a French play in three acts by J.D. Villenhoven.

The original text

Possibly performed in French in 1796 or 1797, published in French in Amsterdam in 1798 by J. Dôll.

Translations and adaptations

Translated by an anonymous translator into Dutch as Volsan, of De Menschenhater Door Tegenspoed, published in Amsterdam in 1797.

Performance history in South Africa

1822: Performed by Tot Nut en Vermaak in the African Theatre, Cape Town, in the Dutch translation (Volsan, of De Menschenhater Door Tegenspoed), with De Deserteur (Von Kotzebue). Originally announced for 21 September, but postponed to 24 September.
