Virginia, by Edna O'Brien (1930-*), an Irish novelist, memoirist, playwright, poet and short story writer. In 1981, she wrote a play, Virginia, about Virginia Woolf and it was staged originally in Canada and subsequently in the West End of London at the Theatre Royal Haymarket with Maggie Smith and directed by Robin Phillips.

In South Africa the play was directed by Bobby Heaney for the Market Theatre Company at Upstairs at the Market opening 14 February 1983, featuring Sandra Duncan, Robert Whitehead, Diane Wilson, also performed in the Baxter Studio in 1983-1984.
