Venus Observed a verse comedy by English poet and playwright Christopher Fry (1907-2005), produced at the St James's Theatre by Laurence Olivier. The Duke of Altair, a lover of astronomy and women, brings three of his ex-mistresses to his home with the intention of marrying one of them, but falls in love with the young daughter of his amiably dishonest secretary.

Performance history in South Africa

1951: Directed by Leonard Schach for the the Little Theatre Players, November. Décor by Cecil Pym. The cast: Joyce Bradley, Joyce Burch, Dorothy Felbert, Edna Jacobson, Charles Marais, Percy Sieff, Laurie van der Merwe.
