History

Originally founded as the Tydskrif vir Wetenskap en Kuns ("Journal for Science and Arts"), as an Afrikaans language mouthpiece for the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, it was split into two interdisciplinary journals in 1960, called the Tydskrif vir Wetenskap en Tegnologie (Journal of Science and Technology in English) and the Tydskrif vir die Geesteswetenskappe (lit Journal of Humanities in English).

Founded to specifically promote publication of academic work in Afrikaans, both the journals have broadened their focus since the changes in the country and now accept articles in English, Dutch and German as well, and the titles has been adapted to reflect the international character, becoming the Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe/Journal of Humanities and Tydskrif vir Wetenskap en Tegnologie/Journal of Science and Technology.
