Thread o' Scarlet is a 1923 play in one act by Scottish journalist and author John Joy Bell (7 June 1871 – 14 November 1934), known professionally as J.J. Bell [1].

Translated into Afrikaans, entitled Die Skarlaken Vesel, by C. van der Merwe.

Performance history in South Africa

1950: Die Skarlaken Vesel was presented by K.A.T. in June 1950, directed by Percy Scholtz. In July of that year, K.A.T. won the FATSA award with this play and By die Kuile.

1958: Performed in English by The Grey Players as their entry in the Round Table Festival that year. The cast consisted of Conal Higgo, Peter Anderson, Nicholas Alexander, Jeffrey Opland and Robert Batho.
