This is for Keeps is a one-act play by Vanessa Cooke, Danny Keogh and Janice Honeyman.


The play which explores passion and violence in the lives of South African men and women at home, and takes place one evening in a flat in Bellevue. The text was published by AD. Donker, in the collection Market Plays by Stephen Gray. in 1986.

Performance history in South Africa

First performed at the Market Theatre in 1983, directed by Janice Honeyman for The Company and starring Vanessa Cooke as Anna-Maria and Danny Keogh as Tony. Lighting designed by Mannie Manim.

2011 Director Diamond Mokoape, cast Molefi Monaisa and Boitumelo Mathobela, Momentum Theatre.

Translations and adaptations

Afrikaans translation by Natania Kleinhans as Tot Die Dood Ons Skei. One-act (two-hander). Cast: mixed. Not to be confused with the original Afrikaans play with the same title written by Rika Sennett, Heléne Lombard and Ian Roberts and first performed in 1999.
