A theatre space, with three venues for rehearsals and workshops, housed in the Methodist Church Hall, cnr Milton Road and Wesley Street Observatory, Cape Town.

The space

It is offered as a home for local theatre practitioners, where they can create work, develop skills, perform, engage in dialogue and meet and work with theatre practitioners who come from diverse backgrounds, whether cultural, social, economic or simply in skill and experience. It is directed by Caroline Calburn, with Pule Setlhako as Part-time Venue Manager.


Projects

The Collective runs a number of community and arts programmes, including and an Emerging Theatre Directors Bursary (in partnership with the Baxter Theatre Centre and Distell), Inspiring a Generation (a joint venture with ASSITEJ SA to inspire theatre practitioners to make innovative, cutting edge theatre for children in South Africa); a School Subsidy Programme; The Family Season (including an annual programme of 3-day festivals for families, school tours, school theatre festivals and school family performance evenings); and a programme in Learning Placements in Arts Administration, Publicity and Fundraising

Among the festivals organised by the Collective have been the Vrygrond Family Festival and the The Obs Family Festival.
