A comedy by Richard Cumberland (1732 – 1811)

It was first staged at the Drury Lane Theatre in 1771.

Performance history in South Africa

Performed in the African Theatre, Cape Town by the Garrison Players on 21 May, 1808, with The Agreeable Surprise (O'Keeffe).

This play was the first full-length presentation by CAPAB which has been specially produced for performance to high school pupils. It was produced in 1967 by Limpie Basson who was also one of the cast members. Other cast members were Ernst Eloff, Jannie Gildenhuys, Johan van Jaarsveld, Etienne Pienaar, Nerina Ferreira, Antoinette Terblanche, Woutrine Theron, Christine Basson and Heléne Carstens. Martin Crous was the stage manager.
