The Tragedy of Nan, also known as Nan, first produced in 1908. A play by English poet and writer John Masefield (1875-1967) [1].

It is set in 1810 on a small tenant farm in a village by the river Severn where Nan lives with her uncle and his wife. Her father was hanged for stealing a sheep but tonight there is to be a party and the possibility of love is in the air.

Performance history in South Africa

1945: Presented by the Arnold Reynor Repertory Company in theCathedral Hall, Cape Town, starring Carol Ryker, Carter Ebrahim, José Borez.
