The original text
It was probably first performed sometime after 470 BC as the first play in a tetralogy, sometimes referred to as the Danaid Tetralogy, which probably included the lost plays The Egyptians (also called Aigyptioi), and The Daughters of Danaus (also called The Danaids or The Danaides), and the satyr play Amymone.

Translated into English by Kenneth McLeish and Michael Walton. This translation was loosely adapted by Tamantha Hammerschlag.
Performance history in South Africa
The play, as adapted by Tamantha Hammerschlag, was directed by Ouida Smit and performed at The Nunnery, Johannesburg, from 16 to 23 July 2002, starring guests Antoinette Kellermann, Mary Holland, Catherine Cooke, Eve de Jong, Brian Webber and students of the University of the Witwatersrand Drama Department.
