The Solicitor is a farcical comedy in three acts by J.H. Darnley (fl. 1880s-1890s)[].

The original text
Probably a new version of/sequal to the play The Barrister by J.H. Darnley and G. Manville Fenn. (performed in Leeds and London in 1887, published by Samuel French)[1], The solicitor was first performed in Liverpool on 5 May, 1890, and at Toole's Theatre, London from 3 July to 7 November of the same year. Published by Samuel French, c1902.

Performance history in South Africa
1895: Performed by Edward Sass and his Gaiety Company in the Cape Town Opera House, under the auspices of the Wheeler Brothers, as part of a season of plays that opened on 1 June till late July.
