The title The Secret of the Hole in the Wall occurs in F.C.L. Bosman (1980), as a work by an anonymous author.

It was performed under this title at the Harrington Street Theatre, Cape Town, by the Cape Town Dramatic Club on 9 July, 1858, with Plot and Passion, or The Female Gambler (Taylor and Lang).

The original text

There are a few works that apparently used the notion of the "hole in the wall" and may have been the original text used.

The Hole in the Wall by John Poole

A farce in two acts, it was first performed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, in 1813 and published by J.M. Richardson in the same year.
