The Secret Love Life of Ophelia is a play by Stephen Berkoff (1937-)[1].


The original text

A reworking of the Hamlet and Ophelia love story, viewed through a series of erotic love-letters. First performed at the King's Head Theatre, London, on 25 June 2001, and published in the same year by Faber and Faber.

Performances in South Africa

2005: Performed at the Baxter Theatre's Sanlam Studio from May 3 to 21. Directed by Fred Abrahamse, with Jenny Stead as Ophelia and Mark Elderkin as Hamlet.
