The Belle of the Village is a "grand ballet divertissement" (i.e. a burlesque) based on The Rosebud of Stinging-nettle Farm, or the Villainous Squire and the Virtuous Villager (1862).
Performance history in South Africa
1865: Performed as The Belle of the Village in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 4 December by the Ray and Cooper company, with The Lonely Man of the Ocean
