The original text
First performed at the Crystal Palace, 1862 and the Adelphi Theatre London on 9 September 1863. Published by Samuel French in 1862.
Translations and adaptations
Adapted and performed as a "grand ballet divertissement" called The Belle of the Village by an anonymous author in 1865.
Performance history in South Africa
1865: Performed as The Belle of the Village in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 4 December by the Ray and Cooper company, with The Lonely Man of the Ocean
