The Passport is a comedy by Benjamin Charles Stephenson (1839-1906)[1] and William Yardley (1849-1900)[2].

The original text

Written in 1894, it was first performed at The Globe on 15 October, 1894 and at Terry's Theatre, London, on 25 April, 1895. Performed in New York at the Bijou Theatre (May 13, 1895 - May 1895). Published by Samuel French, 1906

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1895: Performed by Luscombe Searelle and his company, in the Opera House, Cape Town, opening on 27 July. The cast included Miss Fortescue and Herbert Flemming.

1903: Performed by the Edward Terry and his company in the Good Hope Theatre, Cape Town, on 6 April, along with Kerry (Girardin and Gérard/Boucicault).
