The Old Cane Chair is one of two character sketches written and performed by Sutton Vane snr (fl. 1870s-1880s).

The original text

Though this may have been a piece by George Isaacs (1825-1876), it is most probably a piece devised by Vane himself.

Performance history in South Africa

1878: Performed, along with Christopher Colly-wobble (Vane), as afterpiece to Our Trip to the Rhine (Isaacs) in the Athenaeum Hall, Cape Town, on 16 August.
