The Ogre is a play by Henry Arthur Jones (1851-1929)[1].

The original text

A comic satire about the power-play in a marriage, the plot is a variation of Taming of the Shrew, it was first produced at St. James's Theatre, London on 11 September, 1911.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1912: Performed at the Standard Theatre by Alfred Paumier and his company, by arrangement with George Alexander and the St. James's Theatre, London.

1912: Performed in Cape Town by the Alfred Paumier and his company in the Opera House during April. (In this case the title is wrongly given as "The Orge" by Bosman in his 1980 book)
