The Nun's Romantic Story is a play by Zakes Mda (1948-).

The original text

Originally written as a TV script in 1991 while Mda was writer-in-residence at the University of Durham, the work is set in Lesotho during the 1970 State of Emergency. It was broadcast by the BBC World Service in 1992.

Translations and adaptations

Mda then adapted the text for the stage in 1995.

The play text first published in Four Plays, Zakes Mda (ed.), Johannesburg: Vivlia Publishers, 1996. Also published by Human & Rousseau.

Performance history in South Africa

1995: The stage version was performed at the Civic Theatre in 1995, directed by Jerry Mofokeng
