Though Bosman (1980) suggests this may be (a dramatised version of) a satirical work by George R. Sims (1847-1922)[], called Memoirs of a Mother in Law (London, George Newnes, 1892), it may also be a reference to How to Tame Your Mother-in-law, a one-act farce Henry James Byron (1835-1884)[] (originally produced at the Strand Theatre, London, May 30th, 1864).
