The show, directed by Joseph Anthony, opened at the Imperial Theatre on May 3, 1956 and ran for 676 performances. The Most Happy Fella by Frank Loesser. A Broadway musical (labelled an opera by various commentators, based on the play They Knew What They Wanted by Sidney Howard. The show, directed by Joseph Anthony, opened at the Imperial Theatre on May 3, 1956 and ran for 676 performances. First staged in South Africa at the Civic Theatre by the JODS in 1962, directed and with décor and costumes by Anthony Farmer. It starred Edwin Steffe.
