A comedy in three acts by James Albery (1838–1889)[1], it opened at the Gaiety Theatre, London, on 4 December, 1876.

The Man in Possession by H.M Harwood (1930)

The original text

A play in three acts and an epilogue by Harold Marsh Harwood (1874–1959)[2], it opened on . Published in London by E. Benn in 1930.

Translations and adaptations

Twice filmed, in 1931 as The Man in Possession[3] by Sam Wood and in 1937 as Personal Property[4] by W.S. Van Dyke, with Jean Harlow and Robert Taylor. (The latter film also used the alternate title of The Man in Possession on occasion).
