The King's Gardener, or Nipped in the Bud is a burletta, in one act by Charles Selby (1802?-1863)[].

The original text

First performed at The Strand Theatre, London, on 1 April, 1839 and published in London by Thomas Hailes Lacy, probably in the same year.

Performance history in South Africa

1861: Apparently performed as King's Gardener, or Nipped in the Bud by the Sefton Parry and his company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 17 and 20 June with The Flowers of the Forest (Buckstone) and a dance by Lizzie Powell.
