The Infant of Spain is described as a "comedietta" by an anonymous author.

The original text
Nothing more is known of the text, besides the fact that it was described as "new" in 1847 (see Bosman, 1928: p. 396) and featured the characters Don José, Alcalde of Torre Negro; Larry Groghan, an Irsihman; Don Carlos de Casa Blanca, "in love and disguised as the 'Infant of Spain';and Rosita, daughter of José.

Performance history in South Africa
1847: Performed in English by the Garrison Players (the 90th Light Infantry) in the Garrison Theatre, Cape Town on 19 October, with Othello (Shakespeare).
